Cricket Betting at bdt — Top Markets and Odds Guide for BPL, IPL and International Matches
From T20 to Test cricket — bdt's cricket betting section covers match winner, toss, top batsman and more markets. In live in-play betting, markets update with every over.
Cricket's Three Formats and Popular Tournaments
In cricket betting, three distinct formats create different types of bets. T20 is the shortest and fastest — a match ends in 20 overs, so momentum shifts quickly and every ball matters in live betting. Tournaments like BPL and IPL are played in the T20 format, which makes them especially popular among cricket fans in Bangladesh.
ODI, or one-day cricket, has 50 overs — mid-innings strategy and a batsman's ability to build a long innings become factors when betting. International tournaments such as the T20 World Cup and the ICC Champions Trophy fall under this category.
Test cricket is a five-day game — a longer betting window, innings-by-innings markets and the possibility of a draw add extra dimensions. Three results are possible in a Test: Team A wins, Team B wins, or a draw — so the odds structure is different from ODI and T20.
T20
The fast 20-over format. Bet on BPL, IPL and the T20 World Cup. Momentum shifts every over, keeping betting active throughout.
ODI
The 50-over one-day format. More strategic betting markets are available — separate analysis of the powerplay, middle overs and death overs can be useful.
Test
The long five-day format. Three possible results including a draw, innings-by-innings markets, and pitch conditions all play a role in betting decisions.
Football and Other Sports — How They Differ from Cricket
bdt offers football betting alongside cricket. There are some fundamental differences between the betting structures of football and cricket. A football match ends within ninety minutes, so odds shift quickly after a goal in live markets. In cricket, a wicket falling or a high-scoring powerplay moves the market in the same way — but there is more time between each change.
Football generally has three possible results (win, loss, draw), whereas T20 and ODI have only two. Test cricket can also end in a draw, which makes its structure closer to football.
Other sports — such as kabaddi or volleyball — offer comparatively fewer markets. Bangladeshi users who follow cricket tend to be most active on cricket and football.
Popular Betting Markets — How Each One Works
Match Winner
Which team will win the match — this is the most straightforward market. Pick Team A or Team B. T20 has two possible results; Test has three (including a draw).
Toss Winner
Before the match starts — which team will win the toss. The result does not depend on conditions on the field, so odds are usually even.
Top Batsman
Which batsman will score the most runs in an innings or across the whole match. You can bet on one of several players.
Total Runs Over/Under
A bet on whether the total runs in an innings or a set number of overs will be above (over) or below (under) a set number.
Multi Bet
Combine multiple bets together — for example, Match Winner + Toss Winner + Top Batsman in one. If all selections win, the return is much higher, but if even one loses, the entire bet is lost.
First Wicket Partnership
How many runs the opening pair will score — over or under a set number. The result becomes clear early in the innings, so this market settles quickly.
Odds in Three Formats — Decimal, Fractional and American
Betting sites display the same odds in three different formats. Users in Bangladesh generally find the decimal format easiest because you simply multiply to calculate the return.
| Format | Odds on Team A winning | Result on a ৳1,000 bet |
|---|---|---|
| Decimal | 3.00 | If you win, ৳3,000 returned (৳2,000 profit + ৳1,000 stake); if you lose, ৳1,000 is gone |
| Fractional | 2/1 | Same result — 2 parts profit for every 1 part stake |
| American | +200 | The plus sign shows how much profit you make on ৳100 — here +200 means ৳200 profit on ৳100 |
Example 1 (underdog odds): Team A wins, stake ৳1,000 — decimal odds 3.00 = fractional 2/1 = American +200. If you win, total return is ৳3,000 (৳2,000 profit + original ৳1,000 stake); if you lose, the full ৳1,000 is gone.
Example 2 (favourite odds): Team B wins, stake ৳1,000 — decimal odds 1.50 = fractional 1/2 = American −200. American minus odds show how much you need to bet to make ৳100 profit — here −200 means a ৳200 bet for ৳100 profit. If you win, total return is ৳1,500 (৳500 profit); if you lose, ৳1,000 is gone.
Multi Bet Example
Three selections — odds 1.50 × 1.60 × 1.90 = combined odds 4.56 (approximately). A ৳100 bet returns ৳456, but only if all three selections win. If even one loses, the full ৳100 is gone.
Team A / Team B — these are examples only, not live odds.
Live In-Play Betting — When Wickets and Overs Shift the Odds
In-play betting means placing bets while the match is in progress — and after every wicket, boundary or maiden over, the odds update automatically.
Say Team A has lost 3 wickets in the first 10 overs — Team B's chances of winning increase, so Team A's winning odds go up (the bet becomes more attractive) and Team B's winning odds come down (they become the favourite). The opposite happens if Team A hits three boundaries in a row.
In T20 these shifts happen very quickly — the first six overs of the powerplay, the middle overs and the death overs each create their own betting moments. In ODI the pace is a bit slower, giving more time for analysis.
A good internet connection is important for in-play betting because odds change within milliseconds. The bdt app lets you watch the live scoreboard while betting.
Some Useful Tips Before You Start Betting
-
Set your budget first. Decide how much money you will play with before you start. Betting is for entertainment — any losses should not affect your household finances. Read bdt's guide on responsible gaming.
-
Focus on one market at a time. Start with straightforward markets such as match winner or total runs over/under. Rather than betting on five markets at once, try to understand two or three well.
-
Analyse based on format. T20 and Test cricket require completely different approaches. A batsman's recent strike rate matters more in T20; in Test, batting average is more useful.
-
Be careful with multi bets. Returns are higher with multi bets but winning all selections is harder. Adding many selections increases the risk — a multi with 2 to 3 selections is more reasonable.
-
Keep emotions in check during live betting. If the score gets you worked up, pause before placing a bet in a rush. Odds move fast in in-play markets, so a calm decision is better.
-
Know the rules and conditions before you play. It is worth reading the terms and conditions in advance to understand bonus wagering, the withdrawal process and account policies.
What is betting?
Betting is a form of entertainment. Many people bet to add to the enjoyment of watching a cricket match — but it is not a reliable source of income.
